Youth on a mission...

So yesterday I went to our district's annual youth conference and I thought it was going to be just another church service. There were only three ten-minute speakers but all three of them challenged me and touched on some things that I need to work on in my life...

First and foremost...Mr. Danny Cage, my youth pastor gave his first public sermon and if I can brag for a minute he did his thang... Like he always says, "It's All Jesus!" Danny talked about defining moments in our walk with God and how we must be sensitive to other people's defining moments because although we may not be aware of it the things we do could drastically affect someone else's walk with God. He also talked about not being afraid to be saved in the midst of people who weren't, he touched on the fact that you don't have to be a square to be saved and that instead of following the crowd you should continue to "DO YOU."

The next speaker was a young lady who is a member of Unity COGIC. She talked about handlin business... She read the parable of the men with talents and how the two men who multiplied there talents were given much more but the man who saved his one was stripped of just that one and was punished for not multiplying it. She illustrated the fact that God has given us many different skills and abilities and instead of just sitting on them and not making the most out of what we have, we need to mix them with a lil something and spit it back even better. We should be multiplying the Kingdom of God with the gifts that were given to us.

Last but not least was a gentlman from Seattle International Church. He was the Youth Pastor of that church and it shocked me to know that he was only 21. That was a blessing to me, because it seems like everywhere I look the youth pastors and youth leaders are 25 and up. Being a youth leader and only being 20 years old that bothers me because it seems like I never have someone my age to turn to [don't get me wrong I have excellent leadership I couldn't ask for anything greater] but it was just a blessing to know that there are others my age who are living this lifestyle and enjoying it!-- but back to the lesson... He talked about a new breed of Christians where we know the gospel songs and can sing and dance during praise and worship, but we also know all the lil wayne lyrics and all the new dances, we go to the club then we go to church the next morning, we might read one scripture a day and pray for three minutes but we can text message and myspace for hours at a time. He talked about myspace [and not the social networking site] and how God is wondering why is it that we've allowed men, and music, and myspace, and facebook, and everything else into my[His]space? That was really touchy for me, because I must admit I can read juicy stories on blogspot all day, and I can text my boo all day long but that time was once spent meditating on scriptures and listening to gospel music and just being in relationship with God. And although I have maintained a saved lifestyle my relationship with God needs some work. I need to go back to the place where I woke up in the morning and He was all I could think of, and as I walked through my day I was just amazed at How amazing He was... God has been so good to me, and I need to act like it. It's kind of like in a romantic relationship when you're dating someone and they are just so amazing and you just don't want to do anything wrong, you want to look good and smell good, and say all the right things, and just be everything they want because they're everything you need... That's how I feel about God, and the message-all three messages pushed me back into a position to act like it...

I like this overveiw of the nite i missed tho! appreciate it! I could honestly write on forever in response to this. Wish I could have been there. You blessed me by writing this tho.

Danny is oh so right. You dont have to be a square to be saved! I been trying to tell so many people that. I like that he touched on other peoples defining moments.... u really must be careful! I need notes on that from u love!

I already kno miss lady from Unity broke it down girl. i could go on forvever about the parable of the talents. i've just recently discovered new talents that i have and it is most definitly time to multiply!

So Pastor Ramon Hampton touched on myspace huh? Oh wee girl that message was just for me. Its oh so true I must admit at times I have allowed things like myspace fill [his]space. Now granted I do spend time with God between daily devotions and prayer but I'm still guilty of it. So Im defnintly gonna work on that...

Lastly girl we've has so many conversations about our relationship with God being analogous to a romantic relationship. Just like you lady c I too need work on mines. You kno go back to that place where I first met Him. Go back to walking hand in hand with him. Go back to where I felt so close to him I could literally feel him breathing on me. Where his touch I could feel all that was intangible was made real! He is truly amazing and I love Him!
